Who are these two? That's what I want to know, and I'm excited to find out.

Because we all know you only watched the Superbowl for the commercials.
And because I watched specifically for the movie trailers.
I thought I'd post those trailers here along with a few lines of my thoughts/reactions to the respective movies, in alphabetical order.

I hope you enjoy.

Battle: Los Angeles

Battle: LA doesn't give us very much new footage, but as a teaser it works quite well to bring this movie to the general public's attention. I'm excited about this movie and it looks like I'll be on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This is, basically, Independence Day 2 as it should be done. However, should this movie flop, then I'll look forward to ID2 even more.

Captain America

I've been waiting for Captain America since the first few superhero movies (Fantastic 4 and Spiderman). I was excited when the cast Chris Evans, and I believe he can really step into Cap's shoes. This trailer, though it is the first we've seen of actual footage for the movie, doesn't give us much to go on. I'm skeptical on whether or not I'll enjoy the story of this movie, but I hope the characters are good, and so far it looks a lot better than the Green Lantern. Whatever happens I'll be watching this one for sure.

Cowboys & Aliens

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdy4eRKrf_8&w=500&h=311]

Another movie with grumpy old Ford. I like how this gave us a little more footage than we've seen, but I'm still not sold. Daniel Craig looks awesome and Olivia Wilde is there for sex appeal, but other than that I'm not catching the vibe of the whole Cowboys and Aliens battle.

Fast Five

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icZRROply_4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3]

Fast and the Furious 5 to be exact. My favorite thing about this movie is the addition of Dwayne Johnson. That guys has such charisma and I'll love him in pretty much anything. The other thing I love about this trailer: No major CGI. This makes the action that much cooler, and after that fourth fiasco I'm glad they're returning to doing it over the top. The only unfortunate is that Michelle Rodriguez won't be back, but you can bet that I will be.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR_9A-cUEJc&w=500&h=311]

I'm a Pirates fan. Always have been. However, I will not deny that after the first there were significant flaws, so I remain cautious. Above I've included two trailers, one which is the Superbowl spot, and the other which was officially released months back. The reason for this is because I originally wanted to talk about the latter, but there are slight differences in the two trailers so I hope you enjoy both.

Now the first thing I want to say about these trailers is on their subject. They both focus heavily on "Captain" Jack Sparrow. I'm not a fan of this, mostly because I loved the first movie when he wasn't the focus of the story. Jack was just trying to survive and work his way out of situation-after-situation, and because he wasn't the focus he also stole the show. I do admit that because Orlando and Keira are not returning for this 4th outing, they have to sell this movie on Johnny and Geoffrey, but I still don't like that the trailer is all about Jack; because obviously the story is NOT about Jack.

This brings me to my second observation. There are some characters featured here in short snippets (not blackbeard, the mermaids, nor Penelope Cruz's character) that are obviously the focus of the true story. It is another young man and woman, and if you look closely, they are clearly in love. (They are pictured at the header for your convenience.)

I have been hoping that this movie would help me forget the third in many ways, and it is these small snippets that have rejuvenated that hope. I wish I could know more about them, and I'm sure we will long before the movie releases, but until then I'm excited to visit to what looks like a return to form for the Pirate franchise. I would like to go more in depth, but that will wait for another day.

Super 8

This feels like a Spielberg movie. You know, the kind that were made before I was born. I know there's not much you can gather from this trailer as there's some backstory to be heard, you can get than info here, but let me just say that this will be the movie of the year with JJ Abrams and Steven working together. JJ has proved himself to be a movie lover, and he makes movies for those other movie lovers, and I love the way he captures everything we love about movies. I hope we won't see as much CGI as we've been seeing, but even so I can't wait to sit down at the theatre and feel like a kid again.

Thor

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r44EoSHo9w&w=500&h=311]

I love how huge Chris Hemsworth got for this role. (That goes for Chris Evans too of Captain America). Beyond that this trailer looks like it just cut together a lot of cool action scenes but the story behind it seems to be lacking. I know I can't tell that much from a teaser, but as of yet I'm still not sold. I will say again though, Chris Hemsworth is amazing and dedicated, and just seeing him side-by-side with Natalie Portman he makes her look tinier than she already is. I'm not a Thor fan, but I hope Marvel is doing good with this. Still looking forward to the Avengers directed by Joss Whedon though.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Transformers 'Dark of The Moon' Super Bowl Trailer (720p) from Michael Bay Dot Com on Vimeo.

I'll say it like @davechensky on twitter: "Michael Bay, I wish I knew how to quit you." There's a lot to love about this teaser, even if you didn't enjoy the second movie, which I did not. There's a lot of action here and it looks like a lot better cinematography - which is a plus if you know Michael Bay. The one downside is I was never happy with the actress they got to replace Megan Fox; mostly due to the fact that she's not an actress, but a Victoria's Secret Model instead. I'm also not that attracted to her, but I know that shouldn't sway my opinions on movie Femme Fatales and not everyone has the same attractions anyway - so I'm not going to be shallow here and withhold judgement until I see her act. I will say that if this movie holds up to expectations, then I'm willing to forgive for the second one altogether.

Terra Nova (Honorable Mention Television Series Teaser)

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvb3H7gKujw&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3]

Because I'm wanting to get another group of people together to watch this series, and also because it's produced by Steven Spielberg. Then there's also dinosaurs. And it's about Time Travel and Sci-Fi. You know what, it's been a while since I've seen a good Sci-Fi series, and this looks flat out awesome. Can I be on this show now?
